Raising Kids Who Care About the World Around Them

One of the most go to questions I get from readers is “How can I invigorate my kids to be green?’ This is a worth question but I think it is more important to propose b assess beyond the concept of ”going unskilful”. More is required. They need to notion of about the world ”community” and how it is impacted by the decisions we produce. There is a popular saying that “kids won’t mind what they do not love”. We need to rear kids that have a nurturing character and a compassionate humanitarianism.
It all starts with teaching them to love and watch over about themselves, the world around them, and the other people that reside upon it. I say this in the aftermath of a horrific effect come what may in Florida where six teenagers ganged up on a classmate and rout her severely for 30 minutes, all the while video taping it. If you haven’t yet seen some of the footage released via the media you will be in repel I think. It was horrific what these girls did to one of their peers. They are now surface some pretty serious charges and being tried as adults. Theoretically they could be sentenced to sustenance in prison but yet they ask “when can we go to cheerleading tradition?” and they laugh about what they did. The mom of one of the assailants appeared on TV to say that the sufferer pretty much deserved what she got for talking fripperies on MySpace.
These stories are becoming too frequent. As a substitute for of compassion, ethics, character, and activism we see kids obsessed with MySpace who get their jollies beating each other up so they can Telecast it on YouTube.
Yes, we want our kids to go environmentalist but we have a lot more on our plate to consider. What we need are kids who can be leaders, heroes, and pioneers. Kids who will net the importance of community and that it extends beyond themselves to all the people around them and all the organisms around them. So how do we train kids to care about themselves, the planet, and each other?
