Sunday Confessional - Week 2
Not Buying It
I suppose that this week, I actually was buying it.
And a lot of it, signally for someone who isn't supposed to be buying any of it.
It started Sunday, not two hours after my confessional. Recently, Deus Ex Machina, who is working toward his commercial pilot's permit, installed a flight simulator on his computer. On Sunday, we went to Best Buy, and he purchased a withdraw control system to go with the simulator software.
He never agreed to buying nothing, and so that would have been okay, I fancy. But, while we were there, we also saw a sale rack of GameBoy games, which are being discontinued. We bought two of the games to go with our girls' GameBoys. I should have said no, but, as those demanding game units are now obsolete, it's uncongenial we will find games for their handhelds. Of course, the most honest attitude would be "who cares if we ever find games?", and upstanding discourage using them altogether. That's not what I did.
Sometimes it's remarkably hard to be living in these two worlds - one, keenly entrenched in the money economy and the consumerist American lifestyle, and the other less technology driven have where I hang-dry laundry instead of using my heart operational electric dryer.
Monday I found myself, once again, on the consumer side of things when we were at Aim buying a birthday present for my girls' backer. She wanted a sundress and some clothes for her Groovy Girlfriend dolls. Last year, I made her some doll clothes and my girls sewed her a doll blanket. I'm fully effectual of sewing a little girls' sundress, and I purposes even have a couple of patterns.
The problem was insufficiency of time and poor planning ... on my part. That's the implements that makes transitioning to the more "simple" vital spark that we all covet so difficult. It's often more convenient to scarcely buy it. And it's that notion that marketers are actually banking on, and what makes us "consumers"...
